(Extract from The Dash by Linda Ellis)
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
From the beginning...to the end
He noted that first came the date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years
For that dash represents all the time
That they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
Know what that little line is worth
For it matters not, how much we own,
The cars...the house...the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
I only knew Ron for a relatively short time, in his later years, but he was definitely a man who used his "dash" to the full. He raised a lovely family, worked hard to provide for them and loved them unconditionally. One of the nicest men I had the pleasure of knowing. Thank you Ron x

His Journey's Just Begun - Ellen Brenneman
Don't think of him as gone away,
his Journey's just begun,
life holds many facets,
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting,
from the sorrows and the tears,
in a place of warmth and comfort,
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing,
that we could know, today,
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost -
and he was loved so much.

Those We Love by Anonymous
The ones we Love don't go away;
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard but always near
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
Wishing us hope in the midst of sorrow,
Offering comfort in the midst of pain, both today and tomorrow
